Redefining the future of coffee

Our vision combines a spirit of continuous improvement and nonconformity. It is what defines our unique DNA. In recent years, we have launched espresso machines and inspired new technical innovations that are shaking and shifting the industry’s way of thinking.

HISTORY

Leading the change since 1975

It all started in 1975 in a garage in Barcelona, where Blai Farré used to enjoy doing his favourite hobbies: metalworking and parts machining. Find out how his passion and entrepreneurial vision led us to manufacture robust, technologically sophisticated espresso machines that look great too.

It all started in 1975 in a garage in Barcelona, where Blai Farré used to enjoy doing his favourite hobbies: metalworking and parts machining.

His family ran a butcher's shop, the family business, and in his spare time Blai focused on repairing coffee machine pumps and other mechanisms such as the popular soft drinks and soda vending machines.

His hobby became quickly noticed by businesses and restaurateurs, and they commissioned him for bigger and bigger projects. He soon gave up the family business and began doing what he loved full time: parts machining.

Although he initially only repaired machinery, he soon began manufacturing pieces for the coffee-machine manufacturers themselves. He manufactured his own moulds using casting processes and successfully sold his own parts and spare parts.

Iberital Recambios, the first logo of Iberital.

As the demand for parts and services grew, the premises became too small. So, in 1980, the company moved.

Alongside the move and the availability of more space business expansion: Spain’s first line of small machinery was begun. Although Iberital now had a bigger space, queues at the counter were still common in the shop.

In 1985, while continuing to work on the manufacturing side, Blai Farré started to distribute spare parts for different coffee-machine models. It was the company’s tenth anniversary and this innovation gave us access to international markets.

Over the first 10 years of working with the leading coffee machine manufacturers, Blai Farré and his team acquired so much knowledge of the sector that their own customers would consult them on their needs and on the opportunities that they saw in the market. One of these opportunities was the professional grinder for decaffeinated coffee. Many manufacturers dismissed this need as a minority demand; however, Blai Farré, the good entrepreneur and businessman that he is, began manufacturing his first coffee grinder, a grinder that enjoyed a long period of success on the market.

1985

By 1990, our professional catalogue of spare parts had grown to include more than 8,000 products, a huge milestone in the sector.

It was 1992, a big year both for Barcelona and for Iberital. Blai Farré manufactured his first, own-brand espresso machine. The reception was fantastic. National and international markets alike praised the machine and recognised its successful development.

Customer faith in Iberital led to an increase in the volume of work and new orders. The portfolio of products, both self-manufactured parts and spare parts, grew. In 1995, we began manufacturing a line of professional espresso machines. The Iberital brand made a big impact on the market.

1992

1997 was another crucial year for Iberital. It was the year of major international expansion. Obtaining international standards opened doors worldwide for our machines.

As the new millennium was ushered in, Iberital moved premises again, moving to bigger facilities in the metropolitan area. A more convenient space for dispatching products for international export, which already accounted for 30% of our turnover.

1997

In 2005, we launched our new line of coffee machines: the Expression range.

It brought a touch of innovation to an ever-changing sector. Just a year later, we further increased our portfolio of espresso machines: Expression, Junior and New Iberital.

Iberital became a market leader thanks to its constant stream of new ideas, new projects and creativity; Barcelona’s design is in our genes.

With the company at full capacity, we increased the size of our facilities to 4,000 m2, positioning ourselves perfectly for meeting the next 10 years with renewed enthusiasm. Exports had now reached 60% of turnover.

2005

In 2008, we launched Stila, our first machine for the semi-professional/vending market.

We positioned ourselves in the B2B market with our first online catalogue, allowing customers to check the availability of models in stock and buy online.

timeline-2008

In 2012, we launched Intenz. Elegance and attention to the smallest detail permeate every curve.

A powerful machine with a sophisticated design. Built for environments with a heavy workload.

In the same year, sales were also strong for the Expression TWO, a pioneering machine offering the latest in technological innovation. It features two independent boilers to optimise and control water temperature.

Our commitment to quality, technical excellence and sustainability was recognised in 2013 with Quality ISO 9001 and Environment ISO 14001 double certification: we are the first company in the sector in Spain to receive this recognition.

2012

2015 was a year of change for Iberital. We are a renowned, pioneering and forward-looking brand that aims to revolutionise the sector and offer espresso machines for all types of baristas.

We launched the IB7 machine, which is perfect for small spaces. A wise choice that offers a unique design; it's both hard-wearing and attractive at the same time.

We never stop growing, so we moved to a new, more efficient and sustainable factory to begin a new chapter and meet the demands of the global market. We also refreshed our brand identity and shared our discourse about the passion for the coffee universe that characterises us. The Coffee Universe was born, our online magazine with a limited print run. A content hub where we periodically publish articles, interviews and curiosities from the coffee universe.

2015

In 2016 the new Expression Pro topped off a great year. Together with ACID, Andreu Carulla’s studio, we designed our most innovative machine yet, to worldwide acclaim.

We tripled our investment in R&D. Our vision and commitment to building a more sustainable future is endorsed by the European Union: our 2017-2018 project to develop “the coffee machine of the future” is subsidised by the Horizon H2020 SME Instruments programme. It's the kind of recognition that reinforces a job well done and drives us to keep on progressing.

2016

Our presence in the global markets continues to increase. We started the Iberital Asian Tour, visiting Shanghai, Manila, Ho Chi Minh City, Beijing and Seoul.

In April, we held the Barcelona Coffee Scene in London, an event with talks, live music and tastings. In May, we held the first Secret Coffee Lab in Barcelona, an event brimming with technology, synthesiser music and Iberital espresso machines, during which we enjoyed live performances from actors and renowned baristas. At World of Coffee in Budapest and Coffee Fest in Chicago, all our visitors could leave a message on the whiteboard at our stand, describing their vision for the espresso machine of the future. The coming years for Iberital hold the promise of innovation, technology and holistic design. The market awaits our big "coffee machine of the future" project with bated heart.

The machine of the future has arrived: VISION marks the beginning of the new era of Iberital. Innovation, sustainability and connectivity.

In 2018 we decided to bet on innovation, sustainability and the most advanced technology, which is the reason why we launched VISION, the next generation of espresso machines developed within the framework of the H2020 program of the European Community.
In March we started the VISION ON TOUR, a tour of seven main cities: Shanghai, Seoul, London, Barcelona, Singapore, Athens and Amsterdam. Where attendees had the opportunity to experience for the first time all the potential and the innovative features of our machine.
The media have cataloged VISION as "the coffee machine of the future", and it has become the most awarded coffee machine in history, with five prestigious international awards in design and technologies. Furthermore, it has been exhibited as a work of art at the Disseny HUB Museum (DHUB) in Barcelona to be part of the exhibition "The Best Design of the Year" organized by ArtsFAD.

We launch Tandem. VISION continues to receive awards and the haute cuisine fall in love with it.

In 2019 we were at Host Milano where we first presented Tandem, our latest addition to the Iberital family, a machine designed by Andreu Carulla. Tandem received a great reception from the attendees thanks to its iconic and modern design, where the cup baskets were the protagonists. Also, in this edition of Host Milano, VISION has been confirmed as the most awarded machine receiving the important innovation award SMART Label 2019.
We presented VISION in the main fairs and events of the sector, passing through MICE in Australia, The London Coffee Festival, Hotelex Shanghai, Specialty Coffee Expo in Boston and World of Coffee in Berlin, where baristas ha the possibility to enjoy the VISION Experience.
We made our way into the haute cuisine with VISION thanks to its incorporation in two Michelin-starred restaurants: Tickets by Albert Adrià and Cocina Hermanos Torres, in Barcelona, as well as in the renowned Cakes & Bubbles in London.
More and more customers have decided to connect their Iberital machines to our bi-directional remote control and telemetry system, thus expanding the IBERITAL Connect community.

Tandem

TANDEM follows VISION's path by winning Bronze at the ADI AWARDS 2020. Iberital continues to make a difference in sustainability.

After winning the top 6 international awards with VISION, now it is TANDEM that gets all the attention. A machine designed by Andreu Carulla, founder of ACID Studio, wins Bronze at the ADI AWARDS 2020 for its innovative, iconic, and sustainable design.

During this year we have built our HYDROPONIC GARDEN at the headquarters. To continue working with our sustainable and innovative values.

We continue our commitment to sustainability and started the IBERITAL ANEW circular economy project.

We collaborated with the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) on the exhibition "MNACTEC Treasures: Coffees, cafés and coffee makers”.

We evolve our way of doing business to embrace the circular economy. IBERITAL ANEW is a pilot project of Iberital global. It aims to evaluate the benefits, from a technical, economic, and environmental point of view, of refurbishment and refitting actions on IBERITAL espresso machines used in the HORECA channel.

The IBERITAL ANEW Project is the beginning of the circular economy in the coffee industry. The best way to reduce the carbon footprint of our machines is to make them last forever. And make them Anew.

Iberital collaborates with the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) located in Terrassa (Barcelona): lending the collection of historical machines of our founder Blai Farré for the exhibition "MNACTEC Treasures: Coffees, cafés and coffee makers”, and also exhibiting the VISION in the museum's innovation Space. The exhibition as a whole forms a sensory and historical experience creating a unique journey through the technical and social evolution of coffee consumption and production.
